Turquoise Coast, Turkey
July 10-17, 2017
I am so excited for a summer visit to Suleyman’s Garden!
A week to explore and enjoy the natural beauty and ambiance of this Turkish coastal region while also dedicating your attention to your own nature and inner grace through yoga practice. Trishna will offer morning and late afternoon class on most days.
Our yoga is Hatha Flow with emphasis on breath and awareness. Asana (held poses) are offered with gradations of challenge. Pranayama (breath technique), mantra, meditation, and philosophy are woven into this practice.
All levels of experience with yoga are welcome to join.
Suleyman’s Garden is a charming small traditional farm with a built in yoga retreat. The shala is perched with stunning views over the Mediterranean, and with swimming from a rocky cove a
five-minute walk away. There is a small swimming pool next to where we practice, which will be a conveniently close cooling off option on this midsummer healthy holiday.
Suleyman’s is in a very unspoiled area, on what is known as the ‘Lycian Way’, a marked trail which is wonderful for walking on the dramatic and mountainous coastline. Despite being secluded, Suleyman’s Garden is also only a fifteen-minute minibus or taxi ride to the small resort of Olu Deniz, with Turkey’s most famous beach with plenty of restaurants and shopping.
The main city near to Olu Deniz is Fethiye, a famous port town with a traditional bath house, shopping oppotunities, and some interesting ruins.
Most people fly into Dalaman, which is an hour or so north of Fethiye.
The accommodation is in simple, comfortable wooden cabins with balconies, shaded by vines and flowers, some with views of the sea and others with garden views. There are cabins with double beds (for either single or double occupation). There is a small traditional earth and stone house with two single beds. Bathrooms are shared and situated around the lush gardens.
There are also three newer rooms which are ‘en suite’.
Our hosts use fresh produce from their farm/garden, and occasionally fresh local fish. In the past my retreats here happened in the Spring. The food was really good, but I kept hearing about the tomatoes in the summer…. I am excited for what the garden will have to offer in mid-July.
In short, meals here are delicious and generous. An amazing chance to sample traditional Turkish food at it’s best!
Here are some possible outings that could be arranged with help from the staff at Suleyman’s Garden.
*The Bay of Fethiye, Springwater Beach, or Butterfly Valley, by boat.
*Fethiye City (40 minutes by car). Bazaars, Turkish Baths, and the Ruins of Telmessos.
*The ancient Lycian sites of Tlos and Pinara.
*The deserted Greek village of Kayakoy.
* The extensive Roman city and beach at Patara.
I discovered last year, not through first hand experience but via the great enthusiastic recommendation of students, that there is World Class Paragliding at Olu Deniz.
And of course there is always the option to relax closer to your home away from home.
